Maybe it's just nostalgia but the older sets had so much charm with a much lower part count than modern sets.

According to Brickipedia:
In Germany the set was called "Schmuggler-Versteck" (smugglers' hideout). This might be a reference to the Nautica set 6679 Dark Shark, which had the same colour scheme and was called Schmuggler Speedboot.
So, OP is right.
