In my experience? No, because they're such obnoxious dicks that they enjoy the heated arguments they instigate for the sole purpose of pissing off open-minded people. I have a conservative brother-in-law in Tennessee who looks forward to family visits from his very liberal sister for this very reason. He's such a lonely, unpleasant guy and everyone around him every other week of the year agrees with his views, so encountering an actual liberal who can't just get up and leave the table for fear of disrupting family unity and spewing his hateful views on her just to make her squirm is great, exciting fun for him. He's an asshole - he's not doing it to try and convert her to his way of thinking, or because he's deeply passionate about what he believes, he's just doing it because he's a sadist and a prick.
