Knew a guy who got a puppy and loved it like his child. It got a rare disease and died 3 years later. He was destroyed. He's doing better now but mourning a pet is no joke.
I was getting ready to go back to school after a month of winter break and my 12 year old dog was ecstatic because I was putting on my shoes even though it was -20°. She thought we were going for a walk. It broke my heart to have to leave her and knowing that she won’t have that kind of energy much longer.

And enjoy 11 years of pure love and the joy for caring for another. I'll take that trade-off.
