I went to school in TX and NC growing up. I'm pretty sure schools here still teach that the Civil War was just about state's rights. They fail to point out that it was about states rights to decide slavery was legal.
I've also had teachers defend it by saying the south's whole economy was based on owning slaves. Okay, yeah but if our economy was based on melting puppies, you wouldn't defend it.
