TL;DR: Someone called the cops on me for no reason. I was held up at gun point on my porch by 10 officers and I didn’t respond immediately because I didn’t know they were talking to me.

Police showing up at your front door for no reason is no joke. On Christmas Eve last year you guys could have been reading a similar story about me.

I had come home around 11:30p.m. from work wearing all black attire. My roommate was in the kitchen when I walked in so I made myself a cup of tea and sat down to hang out with him for the rest of the evening.

We had been sitting at the table talking for maybe 15 minutes when I heard the back door handle jiggle slightly. My roommate and I looked at each other somewhat alarmed. We live in a college town and it was the holiday season. I thought someone was looking for unlocked doors to break into apartments.

I got up and told my roommate that I was going to go out front to try and get a visual on the guy. I got to the door and opened it up a crack so I could asses the situation. Immediately, I hear someone scream, “PUT YOUR HANDS UP! COME ALL THE WAY OUT! LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS!”

My initial thought was something along the lines of, “Oh shit! The cops chased someone to my yard and there is a standoff going on right here!”

However, as my eyes adjusted to the dark I began to see that there were about 10 officers standing beyond the left side of my porch pointing rifles at ME!

Still confused, I managed to stumble out on to my porch holding my cup of tea up above my head still wearing my all black work clothes. The officers began to interrogate me right there about why I was in my own fucking house and what my name was. Side note, my roommate was initially going to follow me to check out what we originally thought was a robber but he noped the fuck out of the kitchen as soon as he heard yelling.

After what felt like 5 minutes of questions I finally managed to yell, “Can I ask what the fuck is going on?!?”

Apparently someone had called the cops because they thought I was breaking into my own apartment.

After the situation deescalated, I was asked to show my drivers license to prove I lived there. It seems like I move apartments almost every year so I never update my license. So I end up having to run around my apartment looking for mail with my name on it. While I was doing this one of the cops made a comment that was something like, “things go badly when people don’t obey commands and come out in the open immediately.”

So yeah that was some crazy shit that happened to me and I nearly got shot. This stuff needs to stop happening. We shouldn’t need to worry that the people that are supposed to be protecting us might just show up and shoot us if we don’t play our cards right as innocent citizens.

Edit: clarified time of day and added a missing word.

Guy has a history of swatting

“They were arguing and I shot him in the head, and he’s not breathing anymore,” the caller said.

Asked if he had any weapons on him, the caller said, “Yeah I do.”

He then said he was standing by his mother’s closet holding a black handgun.

“I’m just pointing the gun at them, making sure they stay in the closet,” the caller said.

When the dispatcher asked if he could put the gun down, he said no. He then made further threats.

It seems like the swatter wanted him to get shot. He concocted the perfect story to get this guy shot by the police for even the slightest misstep.
