Unrepresented isn't underappreciated. Every one likes floofs.

My best childhood pet growing up was a rabbit named "Joseph".

I had grown with a lot of bible study and loved the name. Joseph was my best friend from the ages of like 4-6. I used to wake up every morning, find Joseph in our backyard, wrap him in my baby blanket and lay down on the couch for an hour until my mom made me get dressed for kindergarten.

Out of my family of 4, I was the only person Joseph would let pick him up and carry him around. He used to fall asleep with me in my blanket most mornings. When I came home from school, Joseph would excitedly hop over to the door in the backyard and greet me.

One day, I came home and did not see Joseph at the back door. My mother told me that we needed to talk about something that happened. She told me that Joseph had chewed his way into the outdoor shed and found a bag of concrete. He ate some of the concrete powder and it hardened in his stomach. After finding Joseph in terrible pain, my mom called my grandfather who was a veterinarian. He came over, realized that Joseph had a hardening lump of concrete in his guts, and administered a lethal shot of sedative.

I cried for 2 weeks solid. I remember that I couldn't go to school because I was so wracked with grief. Even now, in my 30s, I occasionally have dreams where Joseph is part of it. In my childhood, I envisioned Joseph as my hero - protecting me from ghosts, goblins, and everything evil that sought to get me as a child. I had an identical stuffed animal rabbit that acted as his "stand in" and protected me in the same way whether he was there or not. He was a comfort, a totem, and a loving pet.

Rabbits are super sweet in their own strange way and I highly suggest them as a pet. Just make sure you secure any powder concrete as they apparently love it. We had dogs and we had cats when I was a kid, but no experience compared to that of my rabbit Joseph.
