My father has early onset Alzheimer's. I brought my new dog home for Christmas this year, and he said, 'I know I'm going to forget a lot, but I'm going to remember this dog for a long time.'

You are brilliant. With dementia and Alzheimer's it's all about the now. Give as many "now" experiences as possible. It's good for everyone to be in the moment. My Mom had severe dementia and it dawned on me too late to fill her up with "nows." Our best moments were looking at birds and smelling flowers and just shopping at the mall. I sometimes treated her like she was tripping . Distracting her from negative and creating positive. It seemed to work well. I wish you and your family peace.
