God I miss buttons.

I used to do embedded programming, and there is too much truth to this. Marketers and project managers salivate at idea of a simpler (cheaper) product that requires less hardware and fewer enclosure extrusions (easier to water proof). But I would always cringe at the same sort of suggestions. Just because I can program the EEPROM to do something, doesn't mean we should.

Someone in Toyota decided one button is all I need for the tiny clock/distance screen.

You do need two gestures, of course (select vs. next display) so you have short vs. long press. But to set the clock you also need "stop setting the clock" vs "set the next bit" What other gesture do you use? Wait. 5 bars are displayed and if you don't touch anything for a second one bar disappears. Wait 5 seconds and you have your third gesture! On a friggin car! A few centimeters above the huge touchscreen!
