About Solving the Procrastination Puzzle: A Concise Guide to Strategies for Change

Recent research differentiates between procrastinator vs. non-procrastinator personality characteristics (impulsivity, conscientiousness, and perfectionism) and prefrontal cortex functioning, as well as factors like task aversion and meaningfulness during critical phases of goal achievement: initiating, planning, and actually taking productive action.

The latest research points to the importance of emotional intelligence, including both awareness and stability, and self-control strengthening for overcoming procrastination to create new habits. Repairing moods such as anxiety or worry in productive ways can also help intercept continued procrastination. And "time travel," or imagining the future self and benefits after a task is completed or not tackled can shift our perspective to make action more likely.

Based on current psychological research and supplemented with clear strategies for change, this guide was designed to help readers finally break free from self-destructive ideas and habits, and move into freedom and accomplishment. With numerous practical tips for change, Solving the Procrastination Puzzle brings clarity and scientific studies-and a touch of humor-to the quest for successfully achieving goals. This accessible guide is useful for entrepreneurs, parents, graduate students, and anyone who wants to get unstuck, stop delaying, and start living their most inspired life. The integration of new research and practical strategies should be especially useful reading for both new and seasoned coaches.

TL;DR

It’s an Advertorial for a book called SOLVING THE PROCRASTINATION PUZZLE

SUMMARY

Procrastination is our voluntary delay of an intended action. Not all delay is procrastination. In order to overcome procrastination, we need to understand our reluctance to act when it is in our best interest. e.g. anxiety, perfectionism etc

IDEAS

Categorise which delays in your life are procrastination. Make “pre-decisions” using implantation intentions. Just get started (tell yourself you only have to do 5mins or a small portion of the task). When working online, block distracting websites. e.g. Facebook, Instagram etc. Google Chrome has a plugin called StayFocused. Use willpower strategically. Not everything is a priority, not everything needs to be done.

Edit: This is the most upvotes I have ever received by a long margin. YOU LAZY BASTARDS! Edit 2: Title fix plus link.

This is a word-for-word repost, from the copy-paste title right down to the fucking comments.

Edit at nearly 1000 upvotes: I don’t object to content being recycled. It’s always nice to be reminded of old topics we’ve forgotten about. However, I DO object to ripping off a previous comment in the most blatantly plagiaristic way. It’s one thing to repost and give credit to the original user. It’s another thing entirely to copy their title, their content, and their intent, and pass it off as your own.
