And I get stressed out leaving unused napkins on tables

True story: the expectation that fast food customers clean up their own tables is a relatively recent development. My first job in the mid-80s was at a Wendy's. Our trash bins were kept in a closet in the dining room with the door closed. We had an employee (occasionally me) whose entire job was to clean up after customers and keep the dining room tidy. I later moved to Taco Bell (who offered me 50ยข more an hour) and they did the same thing.

I think it might have been McDonald's that first installed trash bins for the public to use, probably to save the cost of having someone assigned to keep the dining room tidy.

It really depends on the country, you get weird looks sometimes.

Went to the Philippines and the restaurant owner stopped me as I was loading up the tray and heading to the trash can.
