Oh this is great! Something similar happened to me where some douche smashed my brand new car's windows and stole everything in my car. Cops came and dusted my car for prints and had me file a report but the cop on scene leveled with me and said they wouldn't be looking for this guy with so little evidence and very little monetary damage.
Then a cop came out of my backseat and said "is this your cell phone?" It was not. That dumb shit ended up getting arrested and had to pay me back for all my claimed damages over a few paychecks (I believe from garnished wages)
