DOLLY PARTON’S IMAGINATION LIBRARY

Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans four countries and mails over 1 million free books each month to children around the world.

“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer.

The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”

Currently, over 1600 local communities provide the Imagination Library to almost 850,000 children each month across the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia. The program distributes more than 10 million free books to children annually.

That's an awesome thing to do for children. It's great to see people use their success to help others have a better life.

Parton is one of the few famous people I've never heard a single person say anything negative about. She's seems like just an all around wonderful person.

I went to the same high school as Dolly. When I graduated she gave me and everyone in my class who signed up for her stay in school program a check for $500.

I met her a whole bunch of times, she was very nice and down to earth, she even remembered my name.

True story!
