This is my local representative. He sold me, my fellow Coloradans, and my fellow Americans out for $15,750 to telecom lobbyists, and he openly does not support net neutrality rules.

His reply to me urging him to support net neutrality:

In 2015, the FCC voted to enact its plan to regulate the Internet in the same way it regulates public utilities. These rules allowed the FCC to duplicate the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) oversight role of the Internet and have slowed competition in the marketplace. Current FCC Chairman Ajit Pai recently announced a proposal to overturn the FCC’s 2015 rule. I believe we must allow the Internet to function as a free-market.

Americans do not need more burdensome government regulation. A free-market approach would better drive competition in the industry while creating the most efficient and cost effective rates for consumers. The Internet has resulted in groundbreaking developments and innovation. I am concerned that duplicative and unnecessary net neutrality rules will stifle economic growth.

I appreciate the time you have taken to share your concerns, and I invite you to stay in touch with me on any issues on which I may be of assistance. It is truly an honor to serve as your United States Representative.

Sincerely, Ken Buck

@meterwiener

His entire reply is pretty much nonsensical bullshit. His "deregulate burdensome government rules" argument makes no logical sense whatsoever. Deregulation can only work if there is actually competition in the market and in most cases, especially in rural areas, there isn't... By law... So why would you be stupid enough to take the regulatory cuffs off and let profit-seeking ISPs with little-to-no competition do whatever they want?!? Expecting them to do anything other than what's in their own best interests is extremely naive and incredibly fucking stupid. That's like handing a stack of playboys to a porn addict and expecting him not to punch his clown unconscious...

Also, this law is about companies that physically connect people to the Internet. Not the actual Internet itself or the marketplaces that operate therein. It's a fucking travesty this guy either doesn't know any better or he's straight up been bought and paid for. There is literally NO WAY any reasonable consumer would ever be in favor of repealing this law. My only comfort is his internet bills will go up and his data will be mined the same as mine will be. Unfortunately for me I didn't get $15,750 to offset the cost of my future bills...
