As someone who currently has a cat lost a little way from my home this ruins my hopes of getting him back but also gives me hope he’s out there with a new good owner and not out in the freezing cold alone
Edit: As a follow up, he was lost about a month ago more than 13 miles from home, broke out of his cage as my mother took him to the vets and wouldn’t come back to anyone. Posters up all over the area but no one has contacted us. He’s chipped so hopefully someone will think to hand him in at some point.
Couple years ago I was signing for pizza in sub zero temps in Iowa in January. I heard a meow but couldn't see that cat cause it was black and very dark out. I reached down and it ruined its body along my hand. I just felt skin and bones and went "well, ive got cat food inside and plenty of room, looks like we have a new cat"
