When my wife and I were home for Thanksgiving, I decided to introduce my folks to DnD. They were extremely resistant to the idea, but eventually after turkey and pie they agreed to give it a go, along with some friends of theirs they had over.

They loved it, absolutely loved it. We'll be playing again at Christmas! My mom is also extremely motivated to find a female dwarf mini and to learn how to paint it. I never would have thought they'd get into DnD!

edit-

For people asking about the story or how I got them to play I'll try and answer all your questions later tonight. I replied to some people but I won't be able to log in for a few hours.

Thanks for the positive supportive response everyone!

My family played before dinner. My dad and Step-mom have been listening to podcasts, but haven't really played. When they made the suggestion, my step-brother ended up going all out and created a 1 shot where we had to hunt the TurKraken with a band of pirates and turn it into Cioppino and eat it.

Our Dinner was Cioppino and Lasagna, so that was a cool tie in.

This kind of thing is why I do not fear growing old. Retirement homes creep me out now, but when I'm that age, they'll all be full of people who grew up in this era, same as me. Tabletop games and LAN parties all day e'ery day!

(I know this is your family, not a retirement home, but this is just what the picture made me think of. No offense intended!)
