I got a reaction from my mom similar to “Why I’m the world would there be a show like that made?!?! The premise is terrible and making drugs for profit is bad!!” This was a good 15 years after she had breakthrough brain surgery to get scar tissue removed, which crippled my parents finances, forced them to refinance/take out a second mortgage, and probably work until they die.

A plot that wouldn’t make sense in countries that reward their educators with proper health care and wages.

I keep seeing this posted about this being the premise of Breaking Bad. Just to clear things up, Walt was going to skip treatment completely at the beginning of the series and just die when the cancer took him. He started cooking meth to make a large amount of money in a short time to leave his family with something after he was gone. He later decided to get treated after his family found out he was sick. Not being able to afford treatment was not the reason Walt started cooking.
