I think it’s got something in its eye

You could use that beak to fling yourself up some walls in a platforming manner.

Ecologist flying in. Kingfishers are beautiful birds! What a vibrant species.

Kingfishers are a fairly large family. Where I am we have the Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon). They're a little less fancy but still lovely. Interestingly the females are fancier than the males in this species (more info on that from Cornell University).

The heaviest Kingfisher, which shows up on Reddit frequently, is the Laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) of Australia! Here's an example of their signature "laugh".

Despite their name, many species don't actually eat fish at all but instead prey on small terrestrial vertebrates, insects, arachnids, myriapods, etc. Those that do hunt fish have a high fledgling mortality rate due to chicks getting waterlogged and drowning.

As for the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher specifically, they eat geckos, crabs, snails, frogs, insects, and spiders. There's also discussion that the example in OP's photo and their other color morph may be two distinct species (Australia Geographic).
