Back in the late 80's we had something called perma-tube. Dad got tired of fixing punctures and bought these foam like substitutes.
They were quite heavy but manageable. You could also go where no kid ever went without fear of punctures. Yeah, I was the shit for a few months until the rainy season started. Those sponges soaked up the water and became bricks.
I had calves like the steroid sports stars of the 80's. I learned my stunning expose of swear words and developed a short fuse. I'm pretty sure you can still hear me huffing and puffing like a steam train around my old home on rainy nights

They put these tires on bikeshare bikes because it solves the problem of what a rider does when they get a flat on a borrowed bike.
