“The judge is lying.” Alabama’s most conservative news outlet just turned on Roy Moore

Things just went from bad to worse for GOP Senate candidate and accused sexual predator Roy Moore.

YellowHammer News, one of Alabama’s most conservative news outlets, has been among the most staunch defenders of the GOP candidate. After the first allegations of sexual misconduct against Moore surfaced last week, YellowHammer jumped to his defense, encouraging their readers not to join the “frenzied attack” on Moore.

But now, as the allegations continue to pile up, even YellowHammer can’t defend the Alabama politician.

In a stunning turnaround, J. Pepper Bryars — the same YellowHammer writer who penned multiple articles defending Moore and calling the accusations against him a political hit job — wrote on Wednesday that he has come to a conclusion about Moore.

“[T]he judge is lying, and the accusers are telling the truth,” Bryars wrote.

YellowHammer’s sudden change of heart comes on a night when four additional women stepped forward to accuse Moore of sexual misconduct, bringing the total number of accusers to eight.

The allegations against Moore range from inappropriate sexual advances involving underage girls to sexual assault resulting in physical injury.

Since the first reports surfaced last week, Moore has lost the support of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Republican National Committee, and most leaders of the Republican party including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Some GOP lawmakers, however, continue to offer their conditional support. Notably, Donald Trump has not weighed in on the controversy, likely because it hits a little too close for him.

But now, with Alabama’s most conservative news outlet abandoning ship, Moore’s campaign for Senate may be sunk permanently.

This is great news. However, the ShareBlue article paints an inaccurate picture of the YellowHammer author.

I read the articles they linked to, and they seem like a reasoned and well-thought-out argument against hyperventilating in the face of what was at the beginning possibly just a potential political stunt.

Here's an excerpt from one of the articles:

By all accounts, Judge Moore has lived an upstanding life and these accusations seem far out of character. And we all know the reputation of the Washington Post; they hate people like Moore and the values he represents. So more than a grain of salt has to be taken when evaluating any story they publish about the man.

What we can promise is this:

— If Roy Moore did these things, then our writers will hold him accountable on this site.

— And if Roy Moore didn’t do these things, then our writers will hold the mainstream media and any political operatives pushing the story accountable on this site, as well.

Yellowhammer News is about ideas, not individuals. We owe our allegiance to our readers, to our principles, and to the truth … wherever they may lead us.

This doesn't sound at all like a rabid zealot. While I disagree with the author's views I can respect the tone used here. It is a far cry from the screeching found on Hannity and the like. If only more were like this then perhaps we could have real dialogue about real issues.

I don't know anything else about the YellowHammer site, it may be a festering cesspool, but these articles are not.

I guess the tide has shifted. I looked at T_D late last night, and it was all about Moore, article after article. Right now, only 5 out of the top 20 articles are about Moore.

I have to give credit: when these guys decide to shift their propaganda narrative, they move quickly. Then again, bot voting helps them move the pieces up and down on reddit more easily.
