My grandparents on their wedding day in 1944. They rushed to get married before my grandpa was deployed and stormed Omaha Beach during the Allied invasion on D-Day. He survived the invasion and I’m here!

Such a great photo! My grandmother lost her fiancé in the Battle of the Bulge. They were set to be married but he got deployed and didn’t make it back home. She eventually met my grandfather, got married and gave birth to my mother but never forgot about her first lost love. We found their letters when she passed away in early 2000’s.

I don't know about Normandy, but my dad was on the first wave into Anzio and he said the only thing he could think about was that he and his unit were the ballsyest badasses in the world on that day...until he looked over the edge of the LST and saw a US navyman on the beach with bullets hitting the sand around him, signal-flagging landing instructions to the incoming craft.
