I wonder if older dogs remember when they were puppies, and that's why they can be so patient...

I have a 1 year old yellow lab and a 7 year old chocolate lab.

Yesterday my wife took the 1 year old to the vet for shots so I was home alone with the 7 year old and he, for the first time in a long time, grabbed a toy and threw it at me to throw for him.

I think he thought the young dog was gone for good and he could now have my undivided attention. So we played inside. Then I took him outside to play and he refuses to go into the part of the yard where the young one pees and poops. To be fair, he has never wanted to be around whee he even pees and poops.

The older one never wants us to watch him eat (even as a puppy), always whines to be either with me or a safe place (garage), and kinda is mopey no matter the circumstance except for swimming time or hiking.

The younger one is energetic, motivated by food, listens way better, and acts as a typical lab. Good, playful, and respectful to commands. I think he’s just so motivated by food he was easy to train.

All that to say, dogs are weird and have their own unique personalities.
