I've realized that my dog doesn't know that "sit" = actually sitting. As far as she's concerned, "sit" = "my butt touching whatever is behind me."
So if she's standing on the couch, and I tell her to sit, she'll just back up till her butt is on the backrest. And then she's like, "What, I'm sitting? See? Butt on thing."
