We built an outhouse.

We wrapped the whole thing in Tyvek. We used the manufacturer recommended plastic capped nails but honestly they proved to be a pain. They got in the way of a lot of furring strips and the recessed area (in front) where we attached the siding directly to the sheathing they were a real problem. We ended up pulling a lot of the caps and taping over the nails. I need to read up more, but in the future it seems like we could just get away with staples. I'd welcome any comments on this idea or the correct way to use the capped nails. For the porch/deck we attached a 2x6 ledger board with GRK structural screws and put joist hangers on it. The ledger board got a piece of galvanized Z flashing over the top of it and the Tyvek was cut and taped so that it layered over the flashing.

I read a nice article where an old man talked about being a young boy with an outhouse. When the outhouse was too full, they filled it the rest of the way in and planted a peach tree on it. The old guy still won't eat peaches haha.

Edit: Reread that article from oxford American. Great short read from a fantastic publication. Link here
