Michelin, and maybe others, have been working on this for a long time. I recall problems being vibration and flat spots when parked overnight.
I also expect that actual production tires would be enclosed because otherwise mud or ice would get trapped in all those openings and cause severe balance issues.

This seems like the perfect replacement for a spare tire. Never have to worry about the pressure of the spare.
