The man in the lighter colored suit escorting Oswald was a Dallas homicide detective named Jim Leavelle.

I had a pretty neat encounter with the more famous counterpart of this photo when I was in high school. One day my dad and I were hanging out with a guy that lived two doors down from us. I think we were talking guitars and music and he took us in to his office to show us some stuff and he had this photo and a very large version of its more famous counterpart on the wall with several other pieces of memorabilia from the whole JFK assassination. I was very in to the history of the event at the time and immediately started with the questions. It turned out, the guy was the son of Jim Leavelle and had plenty of stories to tell. I convinced him to come speak to my US history class one day and share his stories. It was a very cool gesture and something I'll never forget.
