Frodo's somewhat bewildered look in this scene is what does it for me. Despite the fact that he has already literally saved Middle Earth, he isn't completely comfortable with being venerated by the people whose lives he has protected. He's somewhat confused to see that people would hold him in such high regard, when all he was doing was what he knew simply had to be done. He doesn't think that's worthy of any special honor. It's just what had to be done.
Sam seems to have a much better appreciation for what it means to everyone. He understands all of it completely. He agrees with the admiration, while never letting it go to his head. What he did he did for love and that was enough.
Pippin and Merry...well they're Pippin and Merry.
The beings that are initially described as being so hard to miss that most people don't even know they exist literally saved the world. It's hard not to be moved by that.
