LUBBOCK, Texas — Police arrested a 19-year-old student accused of fatally shooting a Texas Tech University police officer at the campus police station Monday night.

University officials issued an alert saying the suspect was taken into custody and that the campus lockdown order had been lifted.

In an earlier statement, the university identified the suspect as Hollis Daniels.

University spokesman Chris Cook said that campus police made a student welfare check Monday evening and after entering the room found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Officers then brought the suspect to the police station for standard debriefing.

While at the station, Cook said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing him. The suspect then ran away before being apprehended a short time later.

My sister is there right now. Says students are all huddled in dorm rooms and the cafeteria. They have the campus in lockdown. She is hiding with her roomate.

Update: 9:39, text from my sister: "the guy was caught around Jones stadium about 5 min ago. Got a call from tech and the lockdown is uplifted. My chem teacher emailed the class and hw has been extended"

Brought the suspect back to the station for an interview and suspect didn't get checked for a weapon?

So far a police officer has been killed. This is around center north campus, stay safe everyone. If you're in a building, don't leave until this is resolved.

Edit: Just got an email from the school @ 8:57, "The current situation is ongoing. Continue to shelter in place. We will provide more information as it becomes available."

Edit 2: http://lubbockonline.com/local-news/news/crime-and-courts/2017-10-09/breaking-suspect-identified-texas-tech-police-officer

Suspect name released, still on the loose. Officers reportedly performing a wellness check on him while on campus, when he was brought into department for questioning he shot the officer in the head.

Edit 3: Unlike other reports, http://heavy.com/news/2017/10/hollis-daniels-texas-tech-suspect-shooting/ has a statement from Tech stating suspect fled on foot. If you're getting calls from the school saying to stay put, then stay put. I'm off campus and can't comment on whether calls are still going out.

Edit 4: 9:26 http://www.ktxs.com/news/fatal-shooting-reported-on-texas-tech-lubbock-campus/635016335 Apparently he's driving a 2001 Silver BMW SUV. Email from Tech states both main campus and HSC remain on lockdown and shooter is still at large after fleeing on foot. Silver BMW update is from Lubbock police.

Edit 5: I have seen headlines that state that the suspect is in custody, but so far I have seen NO evidence from any authoritative source that this is true. Continue to remain in place and wait for the university to give you further instructions.

Edit 6: 9:40 Just got the all-clear message from the university. The email states continue to avoid Texas Tech Police Department and the north side of campus.
