I know I would hit my head on the bottom shelf and knock the books off all the time.

I used to have bookshelf above my head.
Then the screws holding it pulled out of the cheap pine studs and came crashing down next to my head. No more heavy things above my bed.
Its bad enough when i fall asleep while reading nowadays and drop my tablet on my face.
