The Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 was divided, one half awarded to Rainer Weiss, the other half jointly to Barry C. Barish and Kip S. Thorne "for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves".

It's kind of sad that Ronald Drever isn't still with us today, but I'm glad he got to see a confirmed detection at the very least. He likely knew this would follow anyway.

Interesting trivia: Kip Thorne was involved in the CGI work on the black hole in Interstellar as a scientific consultant.
