Normal, well manufactured cables look like this for a reason. However, since newer generations of people think "it looks cheap and bad", they prefer cleaner-looking cables like the ones Apple uses.
This comes at the cost of this happening very, very often. We have a solution for this problem, but because it doesn't look as 'nice', we have to deal with cables breaking like this.
