Calvin thinks the sun is going out. His dad explains that winter is coming because of the way the earth's orbit is and how it takes them further away from the sun.
Calvin thinks this is preposterous and assumes his dad is making up crazy stuff so he doesn't have to face the real truth... that the sun is going out. (which as we all know, it really isn't).
