When you're trying to print your homework in black and white, but Epson won't let you until you buy more of their shitty overpriced colored ink. Fuck you magenta. Fuck you cyan.

I switched to laser and have never looked back. Bought a relatively inexpensive (~$65) Canon b&w only laser printer on Amazon that came with toner a little over a year ago. At the time, it actually cost less than buying all new Epson CYMK ink refills. After printing tons of college papers and whatnot, still doesn’t need a new toner. And when it does, I’ll know it costs A LOT less than ink (toner costs ~$12).

Buy a cheap Brother B&W laser printer. If you need photos just get them printed professionally. You won't be disappointed.

When my Brother printer demands I refill ink, and I look and it still has a good little bit sloshing around in there, I color a piece of post it note roughly the same color as the ink, cut it out, and stick it onto the little ink window that the printer reads. Then I tell the printer I replaced the cartridge and it magically decides it's enough ink. I've saved a lot of half used cartridges doing this trick.
