Reminds me of Four Lions. The backstory of Barry, the white Muslim who wants to bomb the Mosques to radicalise the moderates, is that he was a skinhead who used to go around beating up Muslims. He decided to read the Quran so he could quote to them as he beat them up but accidentily converted himself.

Maybe some people are just violent sociopaths, regardless of religion or ideology, and will use whatever they can to justify their violent tendencies.
