If Scabbers had stayed in the burrow, Sirius would have probably succeeded in killing Peter, given how Hogwarts is a lot more protected. She basically saved his life (at least in the movies).

This is gold. Molly almost kills her son in this movie, but at least she still saves her daughter later on.....
