My father was fortunate enough to be at the right place and time when his own gave out and was given another twenty years as a result of a heart donor...he said it never felt any different, but the fact that someone's else's heart was sustaining him crossed his mind everyday.
Edit: The family wished to not have any correspondence, however my father wrote a lengthy thank you expressing his gratitude that the hospital forwarded. They never responded and he was fine with that.

I got an extra 5 years with my mother because of an organ transplant, everyone who is a donor is a hero to me.
