Sheriff Billy Mcgee opens up about the federal investigation against him after he stole a FEMA ice truck.

Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee’s “Ice Truck” story has only been legend since it happened in 2005.

For the first time since the storm, Sheriff McGee shares the story in his own words on-the-record.

Trucks filled with ice, water, tarps, and other supplies were traveling from Jackson to Hattiesburg to send immediate relief.

Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee had enough of the absence of supplies on about Day 4 after the storm.

“It was a FEMA staging area, and they had portable morgues, they had portable hospitals, they had ice, they had 18-wheelers of ice, 18-wheelers of water.

McGee walked out of the FEMA trailer, worked up over the conversation but determined to get the ice he came for. »

Chance The Rapper is starting a new awards show for teachers

Over the last few years, Chance The Rapper has become one of America’s—and, specifically, Chicago’s—loudest, most tireless advocates for teachers and public schools, raising millions in funding for Chicago-area education and funding numerous programs through his SocialWorks nonprofit.

Now, Chance and his team have found a new way to show support for America’s educators, announcing a brand new annual awards show, The Twilight Awards, to recognize “teachers, parents, principals, and students that convey leadership” in Chicago-area schools.

Chance isn’t skimping on using a little celebrity clout to promote the event, either, announcing that it’ll feature plenty of guest performances, and will be hosted by CBS late-night host James Corden. »

Free lunch now will be provided for all NYC public school students

NEW YORK — Every student in New York City public schools will be eligible to receive free lunch starting Thursday, the schools chancellor said.

City leaders said providing free lunch for the city's 1.1 million students will support kids' health and their education.

Last year, a majority of city students -- 75 percent -- were eligible to receive free or reduced-price lunch under federal guidelines. »

JetBlue, American, Delta cap ticket prices out of Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma

JetBlue (JBLU) is capping its ticket prices in every city in Florida where the airline operates so people can evacuate as Hurricane Irma barrels through the Caribbean.

The airline has also added flights to its schedule out of select cities where they have aircraft available.

For existing reservations, JetBlue is waiving cancellation fees as well as waiving change fees and differences in air fare for rebooking. »
