Jeez that's sad. Hopefully they get help when the water goes down. I know Houston is receiving a lot of money and help, hope the surrounding areas and smaller cities get some help too

This is my hometown! The water is actually down quite a bit. Several churches have been set up as shelters and the rebuilding has already started. Piles of people's ruined stuff are already popping up.

We've been isolated from the outside world until sometime yesterday when the water went down enough to get to Beaumont through some back roads (FM 421-SH 105 from Lumberton to Sour Lake to Batson, then finally to Beaumont) but police are saying that tomorrow the bridge over Pine Island Bayou should finally be opened, barring it being partially collapsed like the bridge to Silsbee.

Last Thursday, some friends and I went kayaking on the highways to go pick up a friend from his house as the water was still rising. Today, that friend and I (and his family) got everything taken out of his house that could be removed easily.
