That reads "Warning! Danger of death." in the same type language you see on electrical transformers and other warning signs. It's not as melodramatic as the title makes it seem.

Small informational tidbit:

Back then they said "Todesgefahr" which you can roughly translate to "Danger of Death".

Today those type of signs mosly ready "Lebensgefahr" which you can roughly translate to "Danger for Life".
