we still have this in Thailand. my cousin's husband drives a truck for a local ice factory and there's a local shop down the alley from my condo in Bangkok.
side note: it's awesome to live nearby during the Thai New Year/our water festival if you know anybody who works there because you can camp out there and have infinite access to freezing cold water. everyone else will hate you because it's so damn cold, but it's all in good fun!
