I wish they still sold these. My son is massively into the original ghostbusters movies, cartoon and mostly stay puft marshmallow man. I was tempted to buy the old style proton pack that projects Slimer into the wall.
Oh man, I remember these. I had mine taken away for a little bit, because one time I ran up to my big sister, screamed 'oh god its slimer!' and whipped it at her. Box part beaned her in the head. She started crying and I screamed 'we've been slimed!' and dumped applesauce on her.
We used to convince the younger kids on the block that ghost exist, and that we (the older kids) needed to bust them.
We used that trap toy, a microchip board from a telephone, a fish tank, and a bunch of wires to make it look like we had real ghost-catching equipment.
One kid stole a bucket of coins from his parents' bedroom to pay us. There was taddling involved. We didn't keep the money.
