eBay's policy on selling pre-orders: https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/pre-sale.html

"Pre-release items For pre-release items and their accessories, we may block listings until there are no more than 30 days to the release date of the item."

Technically, we're further than 30 days out.

There is another part of the problem: people are willing to pay this much for them.

Ultimately the real problem is that Nintendo refuses to actually meet demand.

If they're trying to turn these things into collector's items (definitionally things that appreciate in value rather than depreciate like most goods do) by not producing enough of them, then they're actively encouraging this kind of behavior.

When I worked at toys r us in electronics I got familiar with the resellers. They'd come in and search through all of our skylanders looking for rares. My favorite part if the job was opening up boxes and putting all the good ones aside and waited until I saw kids and their parents looking through them. It was fun bringing some kid one of the invisible ones that were mega rare right after an ebayer spent an hour looking through them .
