Unfortunately the majority of these "Vietnam Zippos" are fake :( the weathering and rust is applied to brand new lighters.

I'm sure there are some genuine ones circulating, but they still sell these in Vietnam as tourist trap items.

Reminds me of what Niko said in GTA4.

"War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing eachother."

This reminds me of a story my Granddad told me shortly after I graduated basic.

He was a Marine in the Korean war; one of the Chosin Few, for those who know what that means (means he saw some serious shit). One evening, in the middle of a protracted firefight, he was in one foxhole and his buddy was in another foxhole about ten feet away, with the main line of fire running perpendicular to the line between them. Granddad has a lighter but no cigarettes, his buddy has cigarettes but no lighter. So his buddy lobs the pack over into Granddad's foxhole. He takes one, lights it, and tucks his lighter into the pack. He throws it back to his buddy's foxhole, but a bullet strikes it in midair. Goodbye lighter, goodbye smokes.
