An 18-year-old who participated in the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. , said he has chosen to leave Boston University after receiving threats because of his beliefs.

"Massachusetts, and Boston in particular, are among the most left wing states and cities,” Nicholas Fuentes told the Boston Globe on Tuesday, describing the campus and city as "very dangerous." Fuentes said that he has received 15 death threats via email and social media in the past week.

"Probably anywhere I would go would be safer than Boston," said Fuentes, a supporter of President Donald Trump who runs his own political YouTube channel.

One woman was killed and many were injured when a man believed to be a white supremacist drove a car into a crowd of counter-protesters in Charlottesville on Saturday. Fuentes told the Globe he had attended the rally to protest immigration and multiculturalism, but said he was not a white nationalist or racist. "The rally was about not replacing white people,” he said.

Boston University President Robert Brown on Thursday condemned the Charlottesville violence ahead of a "free speech" rally set to take place in Boston on Saturday. Some right-wing extremists are slated to speak at the rally , and Boston leaders have spoken out against hate and violence in advance.

"Palpably evil acts, such as occurred in Charlottesville, invite the challenging question about what is and is not tolerable or morally acceptable in speech and accompanying deeds," Brown said in a letter to the university community . "It is clear to me, and I believe it a view that is broadly shared in our community, that a claim of inherent racial or ethnic superiority is abhorrent. We must, I believe, explicitly denounce white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups that make such claims."

This fucking kid is scary. He's a racist, but he's a smart racist and a well-spoken racist. He sounds like a sleezy salesman when you go in knowing he's a white supremacist. We laugh at him because we know he's a fucking twerp, but you know who doesn't laugh at him? People like my dad--who are smart and politically moderate, but have spent so much time in the corporate world brown-nosing that the first thing they judge about a person is how they carry themselves. My dad's first instinct would be to describe him as a "well-spoken, confident young man, especially for an 18 year-old" instead of "racist nazi scum".

You know who else isn't laughing at this dweeb? Apolitical, out-of-touch Americans who don't bother with any news at all. They think they're centrists by default. If voter turnout is any indication, that accounts for the majority. Their only impression of Charlottesville is that a bunch of nazi kids shouting hateful garbage fought some communist kids shouting dangerous garbage. Maybe they think the nazis are bigger assholes, but both sides are still assholes. They hear about Heather Heyer's death and chalk it up to a fight that unfortunately got out of hand.

Then this guy goes up there with his toothy grin and when they listen they might start thinking, "well I'm not a racist, but this fella seems pretty friendly and he sounds like he's tellin' the truth. what's everybody making such a big fuss about? why are they attacking this nice young man?"

And that's how these fucks get sympathy and how the "both sides" narrative is even taken seriously, especially when a magazine like TIME--which is considered politically neutral--runs the interview.

The little shit absolutely belongs in this sub, but I legitimately worry that a ton of people can't see through his bullshit. That makes him 100x scarier than even the biggest, meanest looking guy with swastika tattoos.

Figure 1: Criticising one man you've never met

Figure 2: Hating entire races of humans you've never met

But remember, we're race-traitors and very stupid so I guess I could be wrong about which is worse.

It's so mind boggling yet makes a whole lot of sense to see that these white supremacists are so out of touch with how a functioning society works.

"I'm being criticized for hating people!" Of course, you asshole.
