Removing the statues seems to cause so much anger, why not simply replace them instead?
Got a statue of Robert E Lee? Let's take it down and replace it, with another statue of Robert E Lee surrendering to Grant at Appomattox.

I didn't know statues were so significant. Voters have spoken, shame it only works for statues and not marijuana legalization or net neutrality.
