The only reason for an American to hold a nazi flag is if it was captured in battle.

Why do things feel so different now?

I grew up in the Deep South. I never heard of a neo-Nazi rally. We did have Klan rallies occasionally, but usually these consisted of a dozen old rednecks and 200 counter-protesters surrounding them. They always had to have police escorts for their own protection. (The Klan.)

I mean, this was in the late 80s and early 90s. It just seems to bizarre to see an actual Nazi rally in an American city. Especially one with hundreds of participants. It's mind-boggling.

Edit: The number of Nazi-apologists and conspiracy theorists showing up in these comments is equally mind-boggling. I guess we can see the evidence right in front of us. Here on Reddit in fact.

Examples: "They were just cosplayers/edgelords." Bullshit

"the flag was new, obvious soros funded psy-op!" FFS, where do you even start...

"Most of them were old-fashioned, honest people, only a few Nazis." No fucking sane person hangs around while people are showing up with Nazi flags and chanting "Jews will not replace us." Let's grade this one as Nazi-apologist bullshit.

"It was staged." Hmm. Actual Nazi groups promoted it and then attended it and took pictures of themselves. Nope, not staged. Real Nazis.

"The Nazis were just exercising their free speech rights, they were provoked." Nope, not going to feel sympathetic for Nazis. If you go outside waving a symbol of genocide, you don't get to be upset if people get pissed at you.

Oh, and apparently I'm also brainwashed and/or funded by Soros. That last part is true -- all this sweet, sweet Soros money is buying my next lambo.

No, I'm pretty sure these were actual fucking Nazis who just acted like fucking Nazis.

My grandfather served in WWII and captured this flag. For years he had it in a box in the garage, just sitting there. It even got caught up in the garage door rigging and got ripped a little. My dad and uncles tried to convince him to preserve it by framing it, and he refused. He never really explained why. He just wanted to keep it in the box. He even made a "war room" in his house filled with WWII stuff, but didn't put up the flag. I always thought that he never wanted to fly the flag of his enemies.

He passed a few years back, and I now have that flag. I think I'm going to keep it in the box.

EDIT: /u/-Gamon- give me an idea. I searched for "Nazi Naval Flag" and found this. "The German Navy League or Fleet Association (Deutscher Flottenverein) in Imperial Germany was an interest group formed to develop popular support on the German parliament (Reichstag) to support the expansion of the Imperial Navy (Kaiserliche Marine)."
