Sony has just dropped a slew of release date changes and set new dates for a crop of films.

Marvel’s Silver Sable and Black Cat, Spider-Man allies and antagonists, will get their own movie Silver and Black, which will open on February 8, 2019 with Gina Prince-Bythewood directing. Note that these Spider-Man spinoffs are not part of Sony’s partnership with Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Silver Sable is a female mercenary, hunter of war criminals and the leader of the Wild Pack, CEO of Silver Sable International and friend to Spidey. Black Cat aka Felicia Hardy is an enemy, love interest and ally to Spidey. Her father was a cat burglar. Silver and Black will face Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie 2 during its weekend.

Barbie is jetting to Wednesday August 8, 2018 instead of her previous date of June 29 next year. That corresponding weekend of August 10-12 she’ll serve as counter- programming to Warner Bros. Meg with Jason Statham and Universal’s Scarface.

Meanwhile, Bad Boys 3 is now unset, its previous date having been November 9, 2018. We hear the script is still being worked on and that Will Smith still is interested. Taking over Bad Boys 3‘s old date is Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s comedy Holmes and Watson, which moves from August 3, 2018. Holmes and Watson is up against Universal/Illumination’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Michelle MacLaren’s feature adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s World War II novel The Nightingale now will debut on January 25, 2019 instead of August 10, 2018. Currently, it’s the only major studio release on its new date.

Sicario 2: Soldado, starring Josh Brolin and Benecio Del Toro, will take over Barbie‘s old date of June 29, 2018, facing New Line comedy Tag and STX/Voltage’s I Feel Pretty.

Exhibitor Relations first reported these date changes today.

Its a shame Villeneuve won't be returning though.

Some thoughts about these dates. First of all, Soldado is getting the weekend that this year Sony banked on (and won) with Baby Driver, so they have some trust on this movie, considering how unusual R-rated actioners are during the U.S. summer season. I'm surprised that they're moving forward so quickly with Silver and Black, but I hope the best for Gina, I liked some of her previous work (the same for Michelle MacLaren, who rocks, with The Nightingale). Holmes and Watson makes me unsure (it has the same director of the god-awful Get Hard), but I really hope that is a hit because Ferrell and Reilly is a power duo, and Lauren Lapkus deserves a big break. Finally, Bad Boys 3 is basically dead, right?
