Recently someone asked me if I was poor growing up. I'd never really thought about it before she asked. I told her that my mom said we were middle class, but that I think she was lying. She said her family was the same way.
I was always so ashamed of how poor we were, and now that I think about it, so was everyone else I know. We were all just lying to each other.
