I believe that's what we call the All-Star game

Oh, hey, I have a relevant story! My alma mater, Troy University, (formerly known as Troy State University) holds the NCAA record for most points in a single basketball game, as well as the #2 spot.

The first time was a 1991 game against DeVry (yes, that DeVry). Our coach changed our strategy to every lopsided game of streetball ever played: run, shoot, go back on defense. Don't even worry about rebounding. He did admittedly run up the score, winning 187-something. (EDIT: This was the #2 highest-scoring game).

So, the next year, our coach is all "we should aim for 200. No one's done it before," and the players are all "hell yeah." Thing is, we're a really good D-II team and they're barely NAIA. Hitting 200 wasn't going to be hard.

In fact, their team played along. Their squad said after the game they were just excited to be part of history. DeVry adopted the exact same strategy of play that we had, and they ended up scoring 141 points in the game—46 points shy of our own record. That style of play helped us explode into the highest-tempo offense on record.

We won 258-141.*

Here's a neat video about the affair from Jon Bois of SB Nation.
