Moved into my house Dec 2012. Flowered in 2013 and not knowing any better I trimmed the wooden shoots.

It didn't flower in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

I know nothing about gardening but I'm glad someone told me last year to leave it alone.

The bush is the size of a mid-size sedan. More specifically, a 91 Olds Cierra I used to have that was parked next to it before I scrapped it, making for a perfect reference. At its tallest it's about 6'3 tall, 10' deep, and 5' wide.

Raise the pH of the soil and the flowers will turn pink. Lower the pH and you're back to blue. Hydrangeas are neat!

At our clients' houses we always cut the stems on this variety of hydrangea, but never in the fall. Only in the spring, after the plant has flushed and you can tell which ones are actually dead.

However I think a few years back one of the guys might have cut them at the wrong time. It's good to know how long it takes them to recover, so next time this client mentions that they never bloom I can offer that information. Might be a year or 2 until they bloom again. Silly plants
