I was at a memorial service for my uncle recently. People were sitting around sharing their memories of the man. Someone mentioned how they never saw him wear anything except "jean shorts".
Someone else chimed in and pointed out that they weren't technically jean shorts, they were jeans that he had cut off. There was discussion about the fact that you could tell his were cutoffs because of the frayed edge at the bottom of the legs.
His wife mentioned that sometimes he would even buy a pair of jeans and cut them off rather than buying actual jean shorts. She thought it was funny that in the store right next to the jeans there are jean shorts which he could have bought, probably cheaper than jeans. But instead he decided to buy full length jeans and chop them off.
Another old person opined that he probably did it for mobility reasons - since he was such an active person and cutoff jeans allow for more unrestricted movement than jean shorts that are made as shorts.
The group was just a bunch of old people. Like late 60s to 90 year olds. I'm sure none of them have ever seen an episode of Always Sunny. I think most of them would be appalled by the content of the show. But there it was, a scene from the show being referenced (unintentionally) almost word for word.
I was so close to busting out laughing that I had to cover my face and excuse myself from the room so I could go hide in the bathroom and laugh it out. I think if someone had said something about boiling them my brain would have exploded.
